Puppies EVERYWHERE!

A meter reader in Georgia noticed a female Dalmatian in the yard of an abandoned house. She was carrying a dead pup. She followed the dal into a garage and found the rest of the litter alive. She called a friend who called rescue. An email plea was sent out to Georgia and South Carolina rescuers..

From Angela Wallace:
I just got a phone call from my email request. A lady named Sandra, who does Border Collie rescue but used to have a Dal, responded. She lives in Franklin County, GA. She is on her way now to the address to see what is still there. If she finds mama and babies, she's willing to foster until they are old enough to travel. If only mama is left, she's going to get her for us and we'll figure out what to do next...I'll let you all know as soon as I hear from Sandra again.

I just heard from Sandra, who picked up mama & puppies. She works at a vet clinic in LaGrange, GA. She had called the clinic and told them about mama & babies. They said they would work with us if we wanted them to vaccinate mama & puppies. I think that's a good offer since they'll need to have vaccines before traveling anyway.

From Sandra, their rescue angel..
Mom is a sweetheart who is sooo relieved to not have to be alone in caring for the babies. Babies have had toenails trimmed and been wormed. Shots tomorrow. Mom is a happy and joyful soul. Wagging and wiggling to beat the band. Happy happy. Puppies are unsure of things but are thinking that having warm food to fill their tummies and a bowl of fresh water is pretty nice. There are 4 boys and 2 girls. 3 black/white boys, 1 choc/white and 1 black/white girl and 1 choc/white girl. All have ticking appearing in their white areas.
Take care
Sandra

Hi Angela
Mom is a super sweet girl, been submissive thru the fence to my dogs......met one of the cats outside today and was fine with the cat.......has a sweet solid temperment and will make someone a lovely friend and companion. I could picture her romping out in the yard or a park with a couple kids 12 or older who wanted a companion to run, hike and play with all day. She is doing real well potty wise inside and is quiet. I have her crated right now and she is fine with that. The puppies are wagging when I go in to feed them and I talk to them. I've been scratching them under the chin and petting them, sitting in there with them and just talking to them, they are starting to come to the barrier in the door........I think they will have mom's sweet personality.. It's a shame that she loved and was loved at some point by someone only to be dumped and abandoned...........True to dog nature she is willing to love and trust humans again, gotta love dogs., people, not so much.
Take care
Sandra

I've basically started weaning them, mom is quite happy not to nurse them, she will run in have look at them, get them all excited and then high tail it out of there. So she is in to visit 3 or 4 times during the day and not really getting in with them and letting them nurse. They are eating food well and often. Let me know what you want to do as far as vaccinating the pups and mom too. Someone is going to be getting a sweet girl. Mommy is good with cats and other dogs, loves being part of the household and people friendly. Puppies are getting use to people and now think we are pretty much fun, so will in all likelihood make good pets for family people.
Take care

I just spoke with Sandra and the Dals are at the vet's office now. Mama is HW negative and only about 12-18 months old herself. Very sweet, crate-trained and hasn't had an accident in the house yet. Gets along with other dogs and cats. VERY nice dog. Puppies have had first set of shots too. One had a little runny nose and was given Clavamox, others were fine.

Meeting mom would definitely make a plus for the babies. I can't say enough good things about the Mom............she is crate trained, house trained, gets along with dogs, gets along with cats, rides well in car, is super sweet and loves everybody, an incredibly cheerful little girl. And her babies seem to have her sweet happy tempermant. They are "quiet" when you pick them up and hold them, but when you talk to them and put your hand in they come wiggling up. If you are in with them they are all over your feet wiggling. They are pretty much weaned. Mom hasn't been in to nurse them in about 4 days now. They eat food well and really don't need to be nursing her any more. As I said earlier, the vet is pretty sure she is fairly young, 14 - 18 months, her teeth are beautful, she is HW negative and healthy.
Take care

Mom and pups were transported to NC for the first part of their journey to PA.
Foster mommy Marjorie wrote:
Everyone is doing fine. I am not mixing the dogs but the dalmatians had the opportunity to sniff my dogs thru a fence. Seems the mom did like my female and everyone liked the puppies and the puppies liked everyone. The mom sits for treats given by my backyard (good) neighbor.

The partial bag of dog food was on top of the crates last night so the pups would not be able to get to it and everyone was adequately fed before bed. But mom must have decided she was hungry and pulled down the bag in the night. Well everyone gorged and was fat this morning. Let's just say the dog food is kept in the house now. I know that the puppies are supposed to be weaned and the mom wants it that way much of the time but they keep trying to nurse. I want to give them enough food to leave her alone but I don't want to bloat them up like I was scared had happened this morning. I think everyone is OK though and the plumbing is certainly working on a bunch of them. The "little red girl" is real easy to medicate too.

I think I fed the puppies 3 times today, what they could eat in a short time. The mom is usually hungry and I have to feed her separately or she doesn't get any due to the greedy puppies. We were blessed with sunny warm weather today and the Dalmatians got to play in the yard for hours while I raked leaves and then grilled out.

Lisa, who does rescue in NC was traveling from NC to NJ and offered to bring mom and pups all the way to Delaware.

Hi Robbie,
I passed the puppies and mom to Lisa at 8:30am this morning in Butner/Oxford, NC and all was well.
The puppies learned to climb steps this week and last night chewed the corners of my stairs (wooden) in the garage. This even though I had given them 2 shoes and 3 toys to chew. So they are tough little guys and ready to chew things. They are all sweet though and I miss them already. The mom is even sweeter. I think she will be adopted very quickly. She is like a puppy herself when given the chance. She likes to play and wrestle around some and get a good rub down. She will also climb in your lap if you let her. Quite a big lap dog. The puppies will follow you all over the yard, clinging to your shoes and pant legs such that you have to drag your feet to keep from stepping on a piece of one.

They also have a large bag of puppy chow with them.

I was still giving the "little red girl" her antibiotics & sent them along refrigerated as well. However, she had no symptoms of runny nose or anything else when I had her. She was the last one to learn to climb stairs but even she was doing that this morning.

Shanna has adapted so well here. She is crate trained and has never had an accident for me. She goes out to go potty on lead with no trouble. She's so friendly to all. Her puppies are in another room and we are letting them out to play with her at times and she is still great with them. They're all over her pulling and jumping and she's just playing ever so nicely with them. This dog is exceptional! Puppies are very healthy and so gorgeous! They are marked so nicely. I am still leading toward Boxer/Dalmatian mix.

Pups have gone to the vet for their second vaccinations. The vet says they are very healthy happy pups! I have been socializing the puppies with my dogs in and out of the kennel. They do very well with Dash and love to play in the snow. Very
captivating to watch them!

Shanna was spayed today. Cost = $249
