Maggie

Maggie, Magpie, Pieface, Peepants Mallone....Where to begin...For years my husband has wanted a dog - for as long as I've known him anyway, and for as much as I love dogs, I always shied away, because of the work, time and cost involved. We welcomed our cat, Tulip into our family in October of 2003, who was a rescue from One by One, and from our relationship with them, we knew that when the time was right to get a dog, we would definitely go to a rescue group. I work with Hillary, a volunteer of WHDR, and have heard countless stories about dogs that had come through the rescue. Then...one day....a story came in about a dog being picked up in West Virginia...Hillary sent me the pictures, and that was it. I went home and talked to Jason and Tulip about getting a dog. About two weeks later, when Maggie was spayed, and healed, we went to meet her. We went out for a little walk, and we knew that we were in the company of the sweetest and most loving soul, who deserved nothing but the best. At this same time, we were in the process of moving, so Liz & Sallie, her foster mommy and sister, were nice enough to keep her for us until we could bring her to her forever home.

Sometimes Maggie tries our patience, but always makes up for it in cuteness and in her patented "lean & flop" method to get pets and belly rubs. We couldn't imagine a sweeter dog in the world and couldn't imagine our lives without her. All the work is worth it just to see her waggily tail when we come home or to hear her snoring, face down into the floor. Her favorite pastimes are playing with skinny dog and the other squeaky toys, sleeping, eating, and barking at joggers. Maggie recently graduated from doggie obedience school, was Dogzilla for Halloween, and is planning to start day care. Her and her feline sister, Tulip, are getting along well and we hope will one day be the best of friends.

Thank you so much to Hillary, Liz & Robbie for all your help - and to everyone else who put in countless hours and effort to make sure that these babies are not forgotten.
