The cruelty that lives in the hearts of some dog owners will never be understood by us.

Tootie, now Lyric, didnt deserve the treatment she received at the hands of her owner. We have an excellent vet who is trying to renew her spirit and rehabilitate her so we can make her available for adoption. Please keep them in your prayers. If you can find it in your heart to offer her a home please contact us at dalmatianrescue@comcast.net

FROM SHELTER STAFF.

don't think the this one can be saved, but I wanted to check with you first just because she's had such a  sad  life. Her name is Tootie and the owner popped her on the head twice because she was barking while he was waiting to sign her in and we had to threaten to pop him.  He  did not speak English so he called a family member and we talked to them on his cell phone and found out that she is 7 yr old, intact, has never had vaccines, has been kept outdoors and is very fearful.  She's still growling at me when I stop to talk to her, but I can loop a lead around her head and take her outdoors.  She is so sad and afraid.

Anything you can do would be great.  All of our 92 indoor kennels are full, with some doubled up.  We've spilled over to our outdoor kennels and 5 out of 8 are now full   It's just all so overwhelming, even after 7 yrs of seeing the same evil.

WE SENT A VOLUNTEER TO EVALUATE

Robbie,
The female did great when I took her out in the yard.  She loved Tammy and her boyfriend too.  I am absolutely flabbergasted!  I think all this dog needs is some tlc, patience and understanding!

This email is from our volunteer, Dr Sarah who went to the shelter this morning and picked her up. Our volunteer is a vet. (yes, we are blessed)

UPDATE from Doc Sarah

Spayed the female and cleaned her teeth.  She has an ear infection, but doesn't look too bad.  Her temperment may be challenging though.  She is very afraid .  She was fine (but a bit panicked) for her bath - never tried to bite and wasn't muzzled.  She trembles when someone reaches over her and she ducks her head down to her front paws.  Poor, poor baby.  She was growling while waking up from anesthesia.  I hope that fades when she is awake.  She has  a rough life and will need to gentle handling.   She may be deaf.

** An exam during surgery revealed that she had severe bruising in her hind quarters and one of her ears. It is suspected that the owner beat her shortly before bringing her to the shelter. Shelter staff witnessed him hitting her in the head as he stood in line to turn her in.

UPDATE from Doc Sarah

Hi

I think I'm going to try to rehabilitate our deaf sweetie.  She is coming around so fast - eats from my hand, loves her walks.  The trainer I had come by thought she was workable.  I called her Lyric on her vet papers, but usually I just call her Grumbles.  The grumbles are getting less and less though.  The trainer and I agree that someone would have to work hard to make her bite because she is such an avoidance dog and she gives very clear signals when she wants to be left alone. Retreat with the most severe head turning away I've ever seen.   She is getting better and quickly enough that I want to work with her.  I
Sarah
