Sweet William's Story

Photo taken 5/24/2001

Photo after several weeks with us, taken 06/02/2001

Photo taken 6/12/01 after being fostered for a week.
He now weighs 46 pounds!

Sweet William today at approximately 75 pounds!

Sweet William was brought in to our veterinary clinic by animal control 5/22/2001. This poor dog is clearly one of the worse abuse situations we have ever seen. Incredibly his owner was stupid enough to turn in him to animal control and of course he is being prosecuted.

Sweet William as you can see, has been abused in every way. He had been deprived of basic food, water, and shelter. Sweet William only weighs 27 pounds, his ideal weight should be over 60 pounds. His eye has been pushed to the back of his head with an object, on purpose. He is now blind in that eye. He has also been a walking ashtray.... his body is covered with cigarette burns. Can you believe that this sweet boy is still trusting in humans? He loves being petted, and hugged. In fact, nothing seems to bother him. We think he knows that he is safe now, he is just content to get the attention care and love that he has missed all of his life. Sweet William's body has been so malnourished that he might have damage to his internal organs. He will also need surgery to remove his eye.

Update June 09, 2001

We are extremely pleased that Sweet William went to a loving foster home. If all works out between Sweet William and his foster siblings, it could be a permanent home for him!

Update June 24, 2001

Sweet William is doing so wonderful in his foster home and that they decided they want to make him a permanent family member. He lives with 3 other female rescue dogs (rather a harem for the old boy!) and a loving mom and dad. They report that he is romping around in the grass and really enjoying his new life. His nights are spent in a king size bed... we are happy to say this boy is spoiled! The vet reports that here may be some possible brain damage due to the severe starvation, but his foster mom says he is a very bright boy and a quick learner. Thank you Amy and William for caring for this boy!

Update September 12, 2001

Unfortunately we have found Sweet William needs to be an only dog. As you can see from his photos, his adoptive family took wonderful care of nursing him back to health. He had surgery to suture his eye closed, his coat is healthy and glowing and his weight is back to a normal level. He is the picture of health. But now that he is stronger they find he is too aggressive towards they older female Dalmatian mix. Several attacks resulted in the Dal being injured so now they must try to find Sweet William another home without any other dogs. Poor Sweet William he is wonderful loyal dog, he just needs to be an only dog.
