Hero's Story

The Noah’s B’ark volunteer that rescued me from the shelter named me Hero because she said I was so brave. Actually I was very scared and in a lot of physical and mental pain but I wagged my tail to tell her how happy she made me. The physical pain was from my wounds that were really infected and the mental pain because I was hurt so bad by the people I love.
The volunteer found me in the isolation unit at the shelter and I was next to be ‘put down.’ She took me out of there and straight to the vet who said I had been electrocuted. He had to do surgery to remove the dead and dying tissue as well as the infected areas. And although the actual wounds healed nicely the infection had already spread in my little body ultimately causing pneumonia Then I was misdiagnosed by 2 vets who thought I had distemper. At that point when the volunteer knew in her heart it wasn’t distemper she took me out of the vet’s hospital and placed me in a foster home.

Hero’s injury shortly after surgery

And after four weeks of healing
The antibiotic I was on was not strong enough to tackle the infection plus it was very hard on my tummy. After a few days of taking it I couldn’t keep it or any food down. I was getting weaker and the pneumonia spread to both lungs - I wasn’t doing very good at all. My foster mom took me to her vet and changed the antibiotics to a stronger one that wouldn’t upset my tummy. I’ll have 2 to 3 weeks of daily injections before the infection will be destroyed. So far I’ve had 7 injections and am very sore but I know I need them until I’m completely healed.
UPDATE: Hero went to his new home in August 2004!
