FUNDRAISERS:

We will be participating in the St. Stan's Spring Bazaar held on Saturday, March 9 and the St. Hyacinth's Spring Bazaar held on Saturday, March 23. We are planning to have our spring plant/rummage/and gift item sale again this year. More information in the next issue. We sold many flag pins since September 11. We have been making and selling the flag pins for about 10 years, but since the tragedy of 9/11, we could hardly keep up. However, sales are slowing down now - we continue to have flag pins at Bay Animal Hospital and at Booth #236 at Bay City Antique Center, along with other crafts. Sue Clements sold many at her workplace in Midland and we received orders through the mail. Many people all over the state of Michigan and people across the United States now have our handmade flag pins - North, South, East and West! We will have them (as always) at our fundraisers in the future.

GENERAL NEWS

For those of you who missed the information on the Website, I am enclosing the information again. Website: Sherri designed a Website page for KBAF. If you would like to see our rescue letter, memorial section, rescue stories and other animal information, go to: www.dogsaver.org/kbaf/mission/mission.htm If you would like a photo of a special pet placed on the memorial site, please send a photo and a short story about your pet, and Sherri will put the picture and story in the Memorial Section. Or if you have an animal rescue story you would like placed in the Rescue Section, please send picture and short story to our address.

SPAY DAY

- The next Spay Day will be February 26, 2002. We will be participating again in this national program, together with Bay Animal Hospital. For the year 2001, we spayed and neutered 149 cats and dogs. Besides the spaying and neutering, we also provided medical care such as vaccinations, worming, testing, and other needs. We are proud to have removed this number of animals from the breeding cycle and thus reduce the suffering and killing of unwanted animals - and are very grateful for your support.

HELP NEEDED! - We are desperate! For several years my husband, Bernie, made the home-made dog biscuits for Katy Bishop's Animal Friends. Bernie made thousands of dozens of dog biscuits and these were sold at all our fundraisers, Bay Animal Hospital and The Thumb Print. Much money was raised to help homeless animals. However, due to a bad back and poor health (he will be having surgery shortly), Bernie can no longer continue to do this volunteer work. We need someone to make the dog biscuits. KBAF would pay for the costs of the baking ingredients, provide the dog bone-shaped cookie cutter and the plastic bags to package them. I could continue to make the labels and provide them to whoever makes the biscuits. If anyone is interested in making the homemade dog biscuits, please call me at 684-8333 and I can provide the recipe and other information.

Thanks to those of you who made donations in memory or honor of a loved one or a pet and to those of you who donated just because you wanted to help homeless animals and give them a second chance at life. Our special thanks to those of you who made extra-large Christmas donations. You made the Year 2002 look a little brighter. Because of your concern and support for helpless creatures in need, we can continue to make the world a little brighter for homeless animals.

Thank you.

Trudy Kane, Secretary for KBAF
