Poodle
Rescue - On September 11, 2001 our country was attacked
by terrorists who were monsters. But not all monsters
are terrorists - there is a woman monster in Chicago.
She was raising and breeding poodles in a crawl space
under her house. When she didn't want a certain dog,
it was killed in a gruesome way. She was raided by an
animal rescue group and authorities - she was placed
in jail and poodles confiscated. She had 56 but due
to their terrible physical conditions, many were euthanized
and the total amount of dogs saved was 34. Many were
suffering from malnutrition, fleas and burnt foot pads
from urine, along with other problems. In order to help,
Karen from Vassar drove to Chicago and brought back
17 - she placed 8 and Jann and Sherri took 9. One of
the 9 died - the rest are being adopted or fostered.
In the next rescue letter we will have all the updates
on the 8 remaining poodles. Their names are "Mathew",
"Willie", "Gizmo", "Frosty",
"Norton", "Honey"; "Mitzi",
"Murray" and "Romeo". "Honey"
passed away. |

FUNDRAISERS:
Our first fall bazaar was
on Saturday, October 6, 2001
at Christa McCauliffe School. It was very
successful. We received many donations of crafts - stone
bird houses from Dick; home-made jam from Paula; silk
arrangements from Nancy; knick-knacks from Pat; jewelry
from Dora; doggie bandannas from Phyllis and Laura.
The Patriotic doggie bandannas made by Laura sold right
away. We also sold 82 flag pins. For many years we have
been making our flag pins and selling some at bazaars,
but now we can hardly keep up with the demand. Because
of your many donations, this was our best bazaar ever!
Thanks!
Our upcoming
bazaars will be: Saturday,
October 27, at Visitation Church; St.
Hyacinth's Church Bazaar on Saturday, November 3; Washington
School, Saturday, November 10; St. Stan's Fall Bazaar,
Saturday, November 17 (one table only); St. Alban's
Church, Saturday, December 1.
Bay Animal Hospital has been selling
our flag pins, also. But we have a new entrepreneur
on the scene. Kara Francke (almost 8 years) designed
a small laminated pin with a combination of the U.S.
flag and the Statue of Liberty - Kara is selling them
at BAH for $1.00 - 50 cents is being donated to the
Red Cross and 50 cents to KBAF. Thank you, Kara, for
helping animals and KBAF.
Bobbi Red at Booth #236 at Bay City Antiques is also
selling our flag pins.
We have received several orders from Lee at
Phoenix Art Museum and we were very happy
to fill his orders. One of the local television news
anchor people in Phoenix was seen wearing one of our
flag pins during a broadcast!
GENERAL
NEWS
Stamp Out Project
- After a huge letter writing campaign by
animal welfare advocates and other concerned citizens,
The Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee recommended the
Pet Overpopulation Stamp ("Spay/Neuter
Your Pet" Stamp) be issued in 2002 - this is pending
the approval of the Postmaster General. The
average print release for a U.S. commemorative stamp
is 80 million - what a message to go across our nation!
We hope it is approved.
Website: Sherri
designed a Website page for KBAF. If you would like
to see our rescue letter, memorial section, rescue stories
and other animal information, go to:
www.dogsaver.org/kbaf/mission/mission.htm
If you would
like a photo of a special pet placed on the
memorial site, please send a photo and
a short story about your pet, and Sherri will put the
picture and story in the Memorial Section. Or if you
have an animal rescue story you would like placed in
the Rescue Section, please send picture and short story
to our address. We are very pleased with the professional
appearance of our Website. Thank you so much, Sherri.
SPAY
DAY - We received word a new record was set
for SPAY DAY 2001 - 150,000 animals were spayed and
neutered. Bay Animal Hospital, KBAF, and you, were all
a part of this wonderful program. The next Spay Day
will be February 26, 2002. Please participate with us.
WISH
LIST - We are still looking for (1) Red
Wing Hockey fabric or a source where we can
purchase it. We would use this fabric for doggie bandannas
and little Doggie Dollys; (2) Jewelry
- old, new, used, broken, etc. for stick pins and other
crafts; (3) Figurines and knickknacks;
(4) Even though we received several bags
of stuffing, we can still use more as the
stuffing is used for dog bone toys (both sizes) and
doggie dollies.
We are also looking for dog
beads - either the whole body of the dog
or just the head. The hole must be in the up and down
position. These would have to be small beads, which
we can use to make stick pins. We have been able to
find cat beads and use them to make stickpins, which
are a very popular item at our bazaars. However, many
people have asked for dog stickpins to go with the cat
stickpins. We cannot find dog beads anywhere!!
Our
nation is now trying to recover from a dreadful blow
struck at the heart of America. Our citizens
have been very generous and supportive to those in need.
This Christmas, if you do not know what to give a friend
or relative that has everything and needs nothing, please
think about making a donation in their name to KBAF
to help a homeless animal receive the gift of life.
Thanks to
those of you who made donations in memory or honor of
a loved one or a pet and to those of you who donated
just because you wanted to help homeless animals and
give them a second chance at life. Because of your support,
there are many animals living a happy, healthy life,
filled with love and kindness. Thanks again for all
you do.

Secretary
