We often have dogs that have
expensive medical conditions or circumstances that require them to
receive extra care and attention. We try our hardest to provide
our dogs with whatever it is they need, although sometimes it can become
very costly. For example, the cost of
treating a heartworm positive dog can range anywhere from $150 - $300
per dog.
The following are dogs that
need sponsorship and/or they are "special needs" dogs:
Boggs
is one of our newer dogs that tested positive for heartworm.
Unfortunately it is way too common for us to see heartworm in dogs that
we pull from animal control. This is an easily preventable disease
but is deadly if the dog contracts it and is left untreated.
Fortunately due to our medical fund we are able to treat these dogs and
find them new forever homes. If you would like to contribute to
Bogg's treatment or other heartworm positive dogs, please contact us.
Eddie
is a sweet puppy that was pulled from Montcolm Animal Control with
his brother. He was very underweight and we noticed he seemed to
be in pain when he was walking.... This brave guy actually was found to
have his leg previously broken in 3 places. He is now in a cast
and recovering but will also need surgery to correct the damage in his
leg. Please contact us if you would like to help with Eddie's
medical costs.
Maggie's
luck changed when she was pulled from animal control but
unfortunately she still has a few more hurdles to cross before she can
find her new forever home. Maggie was a victim of overbreeding.
She was used over and over again to breed puppies for her greedy owner
and when her owners were done making money on her they dumped her at a
local animal control facility. In addition she tested positive
for heartworm and most recently we found out that she has ligament
tears in both of her knees. Maggie's heartworm treatment and leg
surgery will cost from $1700 -$3200 depending on the type of leg
surgery we get for her. The surgery can be done two different
ways. The more expensive version is called a
tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and is usually
recommended for younger dogs, which Maggie qualifies for. The less
evpensive version is called a modified retinacular imbrication
technique (MRIT). This version does not stop the progression of
arthritis, but it does stabalize the knee. We are very determined to
get this girl back to health and into a happy forever home. If
you can contribute to Maggie's medical expenses it would be greatly
appreciated. Please contact us if you can help.
