Many people
love dogs... they smile as they pass by...some even take a quick moment
and ask if the may pet the dog. But every once in a while, a dog comes
along that captivates and steals the heart s of all those they come in
contact with. So is the case of Rocky, a one hundred sixty pound brindle
Great Dane.
Dreamworkers
members first met Rocky and his owner Paul during the First Annual Dreamworkers
Doggie Days. Paul had entered Rocky in the Largest Dog competition and
Rocky won without question. Since that day, Paul and Rocky have become
very active members of Dreamworkers, Inc. visiting Kennesaw Elementary,
Mathews Learning Center, Powder Springs Elementary, Dallas WellStar Nursing
Facility, and participating in other community events.
Rocky's large size captures many looks, but it is his gentle nature and charm that pulls in a lot of attention. As Rocky enters a classroom the children quickly notice the very large visitor and either come immediately or hang back a moment and watch. Rocky makes himself small to the ground-as much as a Great Dane can- and slowly crawls over to a young boy who is on the floor listening to a music box. Tilting his head to figure out where the music is coming from, Rocky studies the young boy. The boy looks up and tilts his head along with Rocky and looks deep into the eyes of this beautiful dog. A connection between boy and dog is formed. What they are communicating between themselves is a mystery to those who observe, but it is a connection of love and trust to be sure. Each now have a new friend.
The above is a perfect example of the tenderness of Rocky's character. We thank Paul and Rocky for all that they do.
Web master's note: Since the publication
of this article Rocky has succumbed to cancer and awaits his friend at
Rainbow
Bridge. He is truly missed by the children he touched and the Dreamworkers
members who share
fond memories of his gentle ways
and loving spirit.
