My Name is Bliss

Bliss the yellow Lab

My name is Bliss.  I am a 14-month-old yellow lab.  My mom says that I look like I have angel wings on my shoulders because they are very light. She says that I don’t always act like one yet. My tail looks like it has a zigzag in white down the middle.  I am in school with DreamWorkers to learn how to become a therapy dog.  When I go to school I am taught to sit, stay, lie down, put my paws on and off, come when I am called and heel when I walk beside my mom.  I also know how to shake, beg and rollover.  I get it right most of the time but it’s hard for a young lab to stay still for very long when there are so many interesting smells to investigate.

When I am certified, my mom, Susan, wants me to come to school with her so that her students can practice reading with me.  She says that they will be able to write stories about me and learn about character education words like responsibility and self-control with me. She said that they could even write math story problems about me.  I can’t wait to play such an important part in the lives of children.  I will not tell anyone his or her special secrets.  My mom has read lots of stories about how dogs can help humans. (We dogs have always known that we are very perceptive about humans and
usually know just what to do to make people happy.  I’m glad that humans are finally beginning to understand that.)
