Become a Volunteer

We come in all shapes, sizes, and ages; from every walk of life; from many different religious beliefs. We are office workers, computer programmers, mechanics, housewives, secretaries, corporate executives, salesmen, printers, doctors, veterinarians, land surveyors, maids, telephone representatives, groomers, mailmen. Some of us own our own businesses; some of us aren't members of DRL; but all of us are dog lovers.

Rescue people may not look it, but we can locate, verify and diagnose why a dog is acting in a peculiar way just about as fast and accurate as any veterinarian. We can determine an obedience problem and give a viable solution in record time. We can beg for donations better than anyone else. We get more accomplished with our smiles and the words, 'It's for Rescue.' And we can work with terrific determination in the face of terrible odds. Rescue volunteers aren't much for mistreatment or cruelty to any animal; senseless excuses for not being able to train a dog; lack of common sense in caring for any pet; the look of pain or hurt in a dog's eyes; nor unnecessary euthanasia. But no one else gets as much satisfaction out of a nudge on the arm, a lick on the nose, or an adoring look from a dog whose head is on your knee. No one else is as overjoyed in seeing a dog play, nursing a sick dog back to health, teaching a dog and handler to become a successful, happy working team, or helping a Rescue dog find 'his' person and ---------- once again --------- 'belong.'

We are Fatalists and Faith all rolled up in one ---- Fatalists because we know we can't save them all; Faith because no matter what the odds, we always keep on trying. And at the end of a particularly depressing, disheartening day; week, month (or yes, even year), when we feel we simply can't continue any longer, we always begin again when we hear those magic words, 'Thank you for our Rescue dog. We love him so much.'
