Save These Dates - September 25 and 26, 2010!!

In September, 2010, the Assistance Dog Club of Puget Sound and the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners (IAADP) will join in partnership to present a two-day conference. This year's conference will follow the path of those that we have organized in the past and in that light the Assistance Dog Club has an exciting line-up of speakers and topics being offered to our participants. On Sunday, September 26th we will feature:

Morning Session 9:00 - 11:00

Karen Overall DVM, Veterinary Behaviorist: Treating Aggression in a Working Assistance Dog

Dr. Karen Overall received her BA and MA degrees concomitantly from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978. After a year spent at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama she was awarded her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Dr. Overall attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin - Madison where her PhD in Zoology was awarded for research focusing on mating systems and egg physiology of a protected lizard. She completed a residency in Behavioral Medicine at Penn in 1989. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behavior (ACVB) and is certified by the Animal Behavior Society (ABS) as an Applied Animal Behaviorist.

Lunch Discussions - 11:30 - 1:30

Lunch round tables will include topics such as Grief, Service dogs for persons with PTSD, Ways to document the training of an assistance dog and Ways for family and Friends to support the assistance dog team.

Afternoon Session 1:30 - 4:00

Don Brandon, Project Director, Northwest Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center: Assistance Dogs in the Workplace: Rights and Responsibilities.

 

Don initiated the farthest north independent living center with Access Alaska in 1984 and served as Assistant Director of Programs at the Hawaii Independent Living Center. He served as the ADA Coordinator and Affirmative Action Officer for the University of Alaska and was serving as the Alaska State ADA Coordinator prior to working for CCER/DBTAC.

REGISTRATION
The cost of the ADC conference on Sunday, September 26 will be $45.00 which includes lunch. Registration forms will be available soon. If you need additional information, contact us at <assist_dog_club@hotmail.com>

ACCESS:
Disabled persons with assistance dogs in training and puppy raisers do NOT have legal access rights in the State of Washington. The hotel does permit pets but there is a pet fee for overnight guests.This pet fee is waived for assistance dog teams.

CEU
The ADC Conference has been approved for CEU credit by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.
